This is the "Lion Nebula."
The Lion is about 10,000 light years away. It's pretty faint, so it took longer than normal to capture.
The different colors correspond to different gasses that are emitting light. It's odd to think about "gas" emitting light...basically, nearby stars are causing electrons within the gas atoms to move around and they ultimately expel excess energy as photons of light. These photons travel all the way to us on earth, where they land on my 1 inch camera sensor...that's quite the journey! It's also why what we're looking at in deep space is in the past...it just takes a long time for light photons to travel to us.
If you need help with the Lion... the face/mane is to the left and the tail is to the right.
